Hey, gals! Today's post is all about my newest obsession, Smashbox's Studio Skin 15 hour wear foundation. I've been trying this foundation out for the last few weeks running it through the tests of my crazy life to get the best review for you guys! So let's jump right in! I have made this blog post super easy for you to navigate and have labeled each part for you to be able to find what you're looking for! I tried to go as in depth as I could so that this review was beneficial for you! Let me know in the comments if you guys like this style of blog posts!
About my Skin Type...
Before I tell you about this new foundation let's talk about my skin type, because a foundation review is no help if you don't know how my skin works! I have pretty oily skin but it's pretty clear as of pimples and blemishes. During the winter months, my oily skin calms down a lot and becomes more average, during the summer months it gets more oily. For the last week or so my skin has been oddly dry, so I'll add to this post how this foundation did when my skin was dry!
Past Foundations...
I also want to let you guys know that I have tried tons of high-end foundations just looking for something that I would fall in love with and that would be exactly what I wanted. I have tried Urban Decay's All Nighter, Too Faced Born This Way (I'm actually allergic to this one), Estee Lauder Double Wear, Tarte Amazonian Clay, a Bobbi Brown foundation, and those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Because I've tried so many I hold each new one I try up to my previous favorite, Estee Lauder Double Wear. It was a lightweight full coverage foundation that held up all day! Really the only bad thing about it was the price tag because it was a pretty big one. That's when I took a leap of faith and decided to try Smashbox's Studio skin. I had never tried a foundation by Smashbox before so I was skeptical, but I was also excited.
First Impressions of Studio Skin...
Y'all, the first time I put this foundation on I ran out of the bathroom to show Dalton how amazing it was. I don't think that he was as impressed with the foundation as I was. The coverage was amazing and it was so lightweight. It had a very similar feeling to the Estee Lauder foundation, the only initial difference I saw was that the Smashbox foundation was a thicker consistency than Estee Lauder, which I liked! I applied it for the first time using a Real Techniques sponge and loved the way it smoothed everything out. It looked like a second skin, in the best way possible. I actually have never tried it with a brush because I love the way it applies with a sponge, so I don't even wanna try!
The 15-hour wear claim was a big one and I wanted to put it to the test, so I did. I wore it all day at work and then out to dinner when I came home to touch up my makeup all I had to touch up was my lipstick. That is very uncommon for skin, I usually have to touch up my concealer becue it fades over the day with my foundation but with this foundation that was not a problem at all.
When I bought this foundation I really wasn't expecting to like it. I actually went into Ulta to buy another bottle of my Estee Lauder foundation, but my Ulta doesn't carry Estee Lauder so I had to get something else because I was out. I picked this one up and honestly thought I would be returning it and trying another one in the next 24 hours. But to my surprise, I fell in love with the foundation after the first use!
Application...
I used to only apply my foundation with a brush. This was because I liked a more full coverage look and I couldn't seem to get that from a sponge. That was until one day I decided to try out my Estee Lauder foundation with a sponge and fell in love. So, I decided to use this foundation in the same way, I've never tried it with a brush because it's that good with a sponge.
I pump a few pumps of the foundation onto the back of my hand and then apply it with a sponge onto my face, I blend until everything looks smooth and even. If I have a long day and need my makeup to last all day I will set my foundation with setting spray as soon as I finish to really lock it in. I let that dry and then go in with my concealer (I use THIS one) and then set with powder (I switch between THIS one and THIS one). Then after I am finished with the rest of my makeup I will set my face with setting spray again. If I just have a normal day, I will set my makeup once at the end.
Also, I mentioned before that I would let you guys know how this foundation held up when my skin was dry. I am not going to lie, I wasn't a huge fan of how the foundation looked when my skin was dry. I felt like it clung to the dry spots and didn't look as smooth as it did before when my skin wasn't dry. If you have dry skin, this is something to consider.
Overall...
Overall, I think I have found my favorite foundation of all time. I love the glow that this foundation gives. The best part about this foundation is the price tag, it's only $36!!! That's cheap for a high-end foundation! Estee Lauder was closer to $50, which was a little cray. But, if you're in the market for a new foundation go ahead and give this one a shot it may just change your life (;. Is there a foundation I haven't tried yet that you swear by, let me know in the comments below and you may just see a review on it here!
